Creating Excitement with Artwork
Hanging artwork in groupings can create an exciting look in any room.
One of the simplest ways to hang artwork is in a pair. This is where you would use two pieces of art, framed identically, and arrange items side-by-side or one over the other, in an even or uneven manner.
Another creative way to hang artwork is to use three or more pieces of art in varying sizes. Just frame each piece in the style and color that works best for that item, and add a little drama by using one large piece of art, with companion pieces in smaller sizes.
An easy way to create an arrangement is to spread your pieces over the floor in front of the wall where it will hang. Then rearrange the smaller items around one or two larger pieces until the grouping has a look of harmony; using a rhythmic flow of colors, shapes and media.
For a designer look, hang your items low over the furniture or trailing to the baseboard. Just make sure you take any light switches, outlets or heating ducts into consideration. When your “floor arrangement” looks perfect, move each item to the wall in the same relative position.
One last tip for hanging accuracy: before hanging your items on the wall – cut newspaper or Kraft paper to size for each item. Hang the templates on the wall using small pieces of removable tape. Then make any needed adjustments. When you feel it’s perfect, use a straight pin or pencil to mark the spots where hooks should be nailed. Finally, hang up and enjoy your masterpiece!
