Bright, vivid colors can add character and personality to your room’s décor.
Whether as a focal point in a room or as a theme, a little color can truly go a long way. Experienced interior decorators understand that the size of your room, color choices, and lighting have the potential to make or break how bright color will look in your home or apartment. Done tastefully, bold colors have great potential!
Bright colors will make a large room look cozier when used properly. If you want to contrast with a pop of color in the paint or paper on the walls with furniture, make sure your contrasting colors are from the opposites on the color wheel. Too many bright colors will clash, distract, and overwhelm!
If choosing to go bold with paint or wallpaper, using neutral floor coverings and mostly neural furnishings usually works better. The occasional contrasting color in a furniture upholstery pattern, throw, end table, or piece of art will bring a room together beautifully.
Just as bold colors will make a large room look cozier, it will do the same for a small room. However, when decorating a smaller room in an apartment or home, be aware that too much color can shrink the perspective of a cozy room all the way down to appearing tiny and cramped. This does not mean that you cannot use some color to reflect your personality, though.
If looking to go with a bold wall covering, consider using paint or paper for just one wall, and a complimentary neutral color on the others. Going neutral on all walls and using quality furnishings and art in complimentary colors works best in smaller spaces.
Color can excite us, relax and sooth us, or simply please us. When decorating, using color is fun and can really personalize a living environment and make it feel like home. Whether you’re entertaining guests or having a night in, having a home that makes you proud can be priceless. Those pops of colors, when used tastefully and effectively, can make your house feel like that kind of home.
